Effects of Different Crossbreeding Combinations on the Production Performance and Economic Benefits of Meat Sheep

Abstract
[Objective]This experiment aimed to investigate the effects of different crossbreeding combinations on the production performance and economic benefits of meat sheep in the cold and arid region of Longxi County,and to select suitable crossbreeding fattening models for local meat sheep.[Methods]Using Dorper and Suffolk sheep as sires,and small-tailed Han sheep and Hu sheep as dams,five crossbreeding groups were set:Dorper×small-tailed Han F1(DH F1),Dorper×Hu sheep F1(DHu F1),Suffolk×small-tailed Han F1(SH F1),Suffolk×Hu sheep F1(SHu F1),and local purebred small-tailed Han sheep(control group),with 10 weaned lambs in each group.A 90-day fattening comparative experiment was conducted under uniform feeding and management conditions.Indicators including average daily gain(ADG),feed-to-gain ratio(FCR),morbidity,mortality,and economic benefits were measured for each group.[Results]The results showed that the growth performance and economic benefits of all crossbreeding combinations were significantly superior to those of the control group(P<0.05).Among them,the DH F1 group exhibited the highest ADG(312.44 g/d)and the optimal FCR(5.76∶1),with a net profit of 797.54 CNY per sheep at slaughter,which was 163.34 CNY higher than that of the control group.The SH F1 group ranked second,with an ADG of 296.11 g/d and a net profit of 767.76 CNY,which was 133.56 CNY higher than that of the control group.The control group(small-tailed Han sheep)showed an ADG of 226.67 g/d,an FCR of 6.93∶1,and a net profit of 634.20 CNY.The sheep in SH F1 group demonstrated low morbidity,good palatability,and tolerance to roughage,indicating strong adaptability to the cold and arid region.[Conclusion]Crossbreeding can improve the production performance and economic benefits of meat sheep in the cold and arid region of Longxi,with DH F1 and SH F1 being the most suitable efficient crossbreeding fattening models for extension in this area.关键词
