Traditional Chinese Virtues in Rural Governance:Reflections and Pathways–The Case of Dancheng County,Henan

Abstract
As the spiritual core of cultural identity,traditional Chinese virtues embody the value traditions of the Chinese nation.Their deep integration with rural governance is intended to realize a two-way empowerment between traditional ethical resources and modern governance concepts,a move that is not only inherent to the comprehensive advancement of rural revitalization,but also a tangible manifestation of fostering firm cultural confidence and self-reliance,as well as an inevitable requirement for shaping a new pattern of effective rural governance.Empirical studies indicate,however,that traditional Chinese virtues are currently confronted with a structural decline in the rural context.The underlying causes lie in two interrelated dynamics:the"blunting"of traditional concepts,which hinders the modern transformation of culture,and the"involution"of subjective cognition,which constrains the enhancement of governance efficacy.To address this predicament,it is necessary to transcend the existing cognitive framework at the methodological level,by applying historical thinking to deconstruct the evolutionary trajectory of governance,employing dialectical thinking to reconstruct its operational logic,and relying on developmental thinking to construct a new governance paradigm.The specific practical pathway entails fostering flexible cultural cohesion through an endogenous"cognitive process",establishing a rigid spatial order through concretized"rural aesthetics",and ultimately building a rural social governance community that integrates shared spirit and cultural identity.关键词
