Abstract
This paper aims to optimize the design of coal pillar widths in different sections and ad-dress the safety issues in coal mine working faces, the study employs a combined approach of empirical formulas, load estimation and numerical simulation to investigate the control effect of different coal pillar widths on the coal pillar instability in mine tunnels. The results show that when the coal pillar width is less than 10 m,the pillar height and deformation on both sides increase significantly, leading to severe pillar instability. When the width increases to 20 m,the rate of deformation growth slows markedly, and the overall stability of the coal pillar improves significantly with the coal pillar deformation controlled ef-fectively by the wider coal pillars. The fitted curves further verify that, within the 20 m to 30 m width range, the deformation curvatures of the roadway roof, floor and both sides tend to be stable, and the coal pillar exhibits good stability. When the width exceeds 30 m,although the deformation control continues to improve, the effectiveness gradually levels off.It has been determined that a coal pillar width between 20 m and 30 m not only ensures the structural stability of the roadway, but also effectively reduces risks of coal pillar instability and spontaneous combustion, thereby achieving a balance between coal pillar sta-bility and safety.关键词
