Abstract
This study explores the academic connection between YU Chang of Xujiang medical school and ZHANG Lu of Wumen medical school during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, and reveals the integration phenomenon among regional medical schools.ZHANG Lu's Continued Treatise on Cold Damage(Shang Han Zuan Lun)inherited YU Chang's theory of"three cardinal guides"and innovatively proposed eight subtypes of Taiyang diseases, laying a foundation for the differentiation of cold and warm diseases. In the Comprehensive Medicine According to Master Zhang(Zhang Shi Yi Tong),ZHANG Lu cited ten case records from YU Chang, covering diseases such as blood disorders, dysentery, and consumptive diseases. This direct reference to and adoption of the clinical experience of YU Chang,a physician of the Xujiang medical school, clearly demonstrates ZHANG Lu's academic inheritance across geographical boundaries, actively absorbing and integrating the achievements of the Xujiang medical school. In addition, this study reveals that although both physicians valued Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma for its effects of greatly supplementing original Qi,they applied it differently due to their distinct theoretical orientations and pathogenetic understandings, forming two different therapeutic approaches—reinforcing healthy Qi to expel pathogens and tonifying the middle energizer to facilitate circulation. This highlights the academic ecology of harmony with diversity in traditional Chinese medicine, providing a classic example for the study of regional medical schools.关键词
