Research on Digitization,Servitization and High-Quality Development of the Manufacturing Industry

Abstract
Purpose:Under the new industrialization paradigm,digitization and servitization have emerged as two principal drivers of manufacturing transformation and upgrading.This study adopts a dual-evolution perspective on the digitization-serviti-zation nexus to investigate how their coupling coordination affects the high-quality development of the manufacturing sector,provid-ing theoretical and empirical evidence for firm practice and policy design.Methods:Using firm-level panel data for Chinese listed manufacturing companies from 2015 to 2022,we construct indicator systems to measure digitization,servitization and their degree of coupling coordination.Empirical analysis is carried out with panel regressions and dynamic panel estimators,and findings are sub-jected to heterogeneity analyses and robustness checks.Results:The empirical results indicate that(1)both digitization and serviti-zation transformations significantly and positively promote high-quality development in manufacturing;(2)coupling coordination of digitization and servitization further amplifies the positive effects of single-track transformations,exhibiting clear complementarities and synergies;(3)mechanism tests show that coupling coordination not only directly improves firm performance but also indirectly fosters high-quality development by optimizing resource allocation,stimulating innovation capacity,and improving ecological out-comes;and(4)heterogeneity analysis reveals that digitization has a stronger effect on improving ecological outcomes,while serviti-zation contributes more to enhancing economic outcomes.Conclusions:Digitization and servitization should be advanced as com-plementary,dual strategies for manufacturing transformation.Coordinated development of the two dimensions better supports the achievement of high-quality development goals.Policymakers and firms ought to promote integrated"dual-track"pathways,strengthen factor linkages and institutional support,and thereby fully unleash the combined benefits of digitization and servitization.关键词
