摘要
Abstract
Against the backdrop of urbanization, female domestic workers face a dual dilemma of"caring for others'families"and"sustaining their own families",with their mothering practices torn between occupational and family responsibilities.Adopting a gender perspective and class theory, this study employs a case study approach to investigate six frontline female domestic workers, aiming to explore the characteristics of their mothering practices and corresponding coping strategies. The findings reveal that the mothering practices of these workers exhibit three salient features:dual role tension, family space alienation, and a tendency toward value alienation.Their predicament stems from the intertwining of class and gender structures,as well as constraints at the institutional, industrial, and ideological levels. In response to such difficulties, female domestic workers have achieved the resilient reconstruction of motherhood through strategies including role negotiation and innovative emotional connection, demonstrating the subjective agency of marginalized women. This study enriches the class dimension of mothering research, and provides theoretical and practical insights for safeguarding the rights and interests of domestic workers, optimizing family support systems, and promoting the standardized development of the domestic service industry.关键词
