Dispersal and Integration of Rural Migrant Youth Families:An Empirical Study of BS Village in North China

Abstract
In the policy practice of advancing rural revitalization,the construction of rural families is undoubtedly an important dimension.Existing research has focused on the impact of modernization process on the family,yet it has overlooked the behavioral pathways through which individuals mediate the relationship between modernization and the family.Through a case study analysis,this paper explores the theory of individualism as a framework to explore the decentralization and recombination of rural migrant youth families.The analysis reveals that rural migrant youth families exhibit two distinct characteristics:a delay in the establishment time and a discontinuous existence state.These characteristics are the result of the push-pull dynamics generated by three sets of divergent and convergent forces,namely:(1)individuals'aspirations for personal growth versus the family's emotional value;(2)family livelihood responsibilities versus family caregiving responsibilities;(3)the nuclearization of the family versus its external dependence.The transformation of family structure represents a painful consequence of individual choices,underlying which is the tension between traditional family responsibilities and the modern social structure.While traditional culture plays a crucial role in mitigating the disintegrating effects of modernity on families,it also requires the establishment of sound modern mechanisms to safeguard individual growth and family reunion.关键词
