Advances in the anaerobic degradation of organochlorine compounds in soil enhanced by iron oxides
摘要
Abstract
Organochlorine compounds exhibit persistence, bioaccumulation and high toxicity.Due to the high electronegativity of chlorine, these compounds are difficult to aerobically degrade under natural conditions.Under anaerobic conditions, however, organochlorine compounds could readily accept electrons and undergo dechlorination, producing lower-chlorinated intermediated products that are more easily mineralized. The redox process of iron in soil plays a key regulatory role in the anaerobic degradation of organochlorine compounds. On the one hand, iron oxides can accelerate the extracellular electron transfer efficiency, thereby enhancing the dechlorination and mineralization capabilities of microorganisms. On the other hand, iron oxides can promote chemical reductive dechlorination through the generation of adsorbed Fe(Ⅱ)via dissimilatory iron reduction, and can also stimulate direct dechlorination by iron-reducing bacteria.Based on the anaerobic degradation pathways of organochlorine compounds in soil, this review summarizes the enhancement mechanism of iron oxides on anaerobic degradation of organochlorines from multiple perspectives, and discusses the current applications of iron oxides in the remediation of organochlorine-contaminated soil. Finally, further research directions are proposed, including:precise elucidation of the extracellular electron transfer pathways enhanced by iron oxides, understanding community response and interaction mechanisms of functional microorganisms, and optimization of materials and system integration for in-situ remediation technology.关键词
