The Impact of Time Density Pressure on Occupational Injuries of Food Delivery Riders:An Explanation Based on the Conservation of Resources Theory

Abstract
Against the background of rapid platform economy development,time density pressure induced by algorithmic dispatching has intensified the workload of food delivery riders.Frequent occupational injuries caused by handling multiple orders simultaneously and compressed average delivery time,have become an urgent practical issue in the protection of workers'rights and interests in new forms of employment.Based on site-rider matching data,this paper systematically examines the effect,mechanism and heterogeneity of time density pressure on occupational injuries from the perspective of time density.The results show that a significant positive correlation between time density pressure and occupational injuries among food delivery riders,which remains robust after a series of robustness checks and shows significant differences among different groups.The impact of time density pressure on occupational injuries is more significant for male,middle-aged and elderly,low-educated and full-time exclusive riders.Mechanism analysis reveals that time density pressure induces occupational injuries by exacerbating overwork.Moreover,labor protection intensity negatively moderates the relationship between time density pressure and overwork,as sound institutional protection can mitigate the depletion of physical and mental resources caused by time density pressure,thereby weakening the transformation of time density pressure into overwork.This paper expands the application boundary of conservation of resources theory in the field of platform labor safety and provides a basis for improving policies on occupational injury protection for food delivery riders.关键词
