摘要
Abstract
A conceptual design of a sandalwood oil refining process was carried out for a proposed 5 000 L·a-1 sandalwood oil plant in Broome,Western Australia, focusing on the sustainable utilization of sandalwood resources. The process consisted of pretreatment,a separator, two distillation columns, condensation and heat exchange units, mixing cooling, and storage units.Based on a design basis of 5 000 L annual production, target mole fractions of bergamotol, santalene, and farnesol in the product of 60%,30%,and 10%,respectively,and an overall recovery of 98%,the key stream compositions and operating parameters were determined using alternative component property estimation and steady-state material and energy balance methods. The results indicated that the separator could first remove light components such as alkanes and limonene, and the two distillation columns could further separate santalene, bergamotol, and farnesol.Energy consumption was mainly concentrated in the reboiling and condensation processes of the distillation section.Combined with forestry residual wood chips for heat supply and photovoltaic-assisted utilities, the product composition and recovery could be guaranteed while reducing fossil energy consumption. This design can provide a basis for scale-up of small-scale natural essential oil refining processes,low-carbon energy configuration, and subsequent pilot-scale validation.关键词
