Application Status of Mendelian Randomization in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and a Discussion on Traditional Chinese Medicine

Abstract
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF)is a progressive,fatal,and irreversible interstitial lung disease with an unknown etiology.In recent years,Mendelian randomization(MR)analysis has emerged as a popular method for causal inference in evidence-based medicine,as it minimizes confounding factors and reverse causality often present in observational studies and randomized controlled trials(RCTs).This article systematically reviews the current applications of MR in IPF from three perspectives:individual factors,clinical diseases,and molecular factors.Based on existing research,it further explores the pathogenesis of IPF within the theoretical framework of"lung deficiency and collateral stasis"and investigates the potential mechanisms by which the therapeutic approach of"tonifying qi,nourishing yin,activating blood circulation,and unblocking collaterals"may act on IPF at a molecular level.Finally,the opportunities and challenges in the current application of MR in IPF research are discussed,with the aim of identifying new avenues for evidence-based research in traditional Chinese medicine and providing insights for basic research,clinical studies,and drug development in IPF.关键词
