Research Advances in the Effects of Silvicultural Management on Forest Carbon Storage

Abstract
Silvicultural management is an important measure to regulate stand structure,improve forest quality,and balance timber production with ecological functions.Its effects on carbon storage in forest ecosystems have been an important topic in the research on forest carbon sinks.By altering stand density,tree species composition,understory light,heat and moisture conditions,and material cycling processes,silvicultural management affects the accumulation and transformation of carbon pools such as vegetation,litter,and soil.Focusing on different silvicultural management practices and their intensity gradients,this paper reviews their effects on forest carbon storage and its underlying mechanisms.The results indicate that the effects of silvicultural management on forest carbon storage are characterized by distinct dependence on management type,variation in management intensity,and time-lag effects,and trade-offs and coupling relationships exist among different carbon pools.However,current studies remain insufficient in their understanding of the synergistic coupling mechanisms among multiple carbon pools,and lack quantitative assessments across multiple spatial and temporal scales.Long-term dynamic observations and simulations are also insufficient.Future research should strengthen research on integrated influence mechanisms affecting different carbon pools,improve quantitative assessment methods for carbon effects across multiple scales,and enhance long-term fixed-site monitoring and dynamic simulations,thereby providing a theoretical basis for optimizing forest management and enhancing forest carbon sinks.关键词
