Role of Ion Channels in Constipation and Traditional Chinese Medicine Intervention Based on the Theory of"Xuanfu-qi and Fluid"

Abstract
Constipation is a common functional gastrointestinal disorder in clinical practice,with difficulty in defecation,decreased bowel movement frequency,and a sensation of incomplete evacuation as its core symptoms.Its recurrent episodes seriously affect pa-tients' quality of life.This article further elucidates the theoretical connotations of the"Xuanfu-qi and fluid"theory,taking"Xuan-fu-qi and fluid-ion channels"as the core link,and systematically demonstrates the intrinsic relationships among the three.Xuanfu,as the microscopic pores through which qi and fluid circulate,requires"moderate opening and closing"to ensure the smooth circu-lation of qi and fluid and coordination of the Zangfu organs,which is highly consistent with the core function of ion channels in mod-ern medicine in regulating water and electrolyte balance inside and outside cells.Qi and fluid,as the material basis for maintaining intestinal function in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),have the physiological characteristics that"movement promotes intestinal motility and secretion moistens the intestine",which directly correspond to the mechanisms of intestinal smooth muscle contraction and intestinal fluid secretion mediated by ion channels.TCM holds that obstruction of the Xuanfu leads to stagnation of qi and im-paired distribution of body fluids,eventually resulting in"dry stool accumulation internally",which is highly consistent with the pathological mechanisms of decreased intestinal motility and insufficient intestinal fluid secretion caused by ion channel dysfunc-tion.This article supplements the theoretical basis and literature support from three dimensions,including theoretical homology,ma-terial correlation,and pathological corroboration,clarifying that"Xuanfu obstruction and qi and fluid stagnation"constitute the core pathogenesis of constipation.It further develops the therapeutic approach of"opening the Xuanfu and promoting the circulation of qi and fluid"and proposes that the"opening the Xuanfu and unblocking the Fu"method can use pungent and moistening Chinese medicines and those that promote the free flow of qi to both dredge the Xuanfu and restore the circulation of qi and fluid and regu-late ion channel function to restore intestinal water and fluid metabolism and the rhythm of intestinal peristalsis.In conclusion,fur-ther research into the relationship among"Xuanfu-qi and fluid-ion channels-constipation"may provide new theoretical support and practical approaches for elucidating the underlying pathological mechanisms of constipation and optimizing precise intervention strategies in TCM.关键词
