Abstract
Objective:To retrospectively investigate the characteristics of 1,034 patient consultation and nursing service delivery in an internet-based ocular surface disease nursing clinic,identify factors influencing the types of inquiries,and summarize service strengths and limitations to provide insights for enhancing the quality of both online and offline nursing services.Methods:A retrospective study was conducted using consultation and service delivery data collected from the internet-based ocular surface disease nursing clinic at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center,Sun Yat-sen University,between June 2021 and March 2025.We analyzed demographic characteristics of patients,the distribution of consultation times,inquiry types,and the temporal distribution of service delivery.χ2 tests were employed to assess differences in consultation topics among patients with different characteristics.Results:Of the 1,034 consultations,546(52.8%)were initiated by females and 488(47.2%)were initiated by males.The mean age of the patients was 37.19±18.46 years.The young adult group(20-44 years)accounted for the highest consultation volume(n=523,50.6%),while the elderly group(≥60 years)represented the lowest proportion(n=136,13.2%).Patient education inquiries were the most frequent type(343 cases,33.2%),followed by medication-related consultations(224 cases,21.7%).Inquiries occurred throughout the day.The median nurse response time was 1.85 hours(interquartile range[IQR]:0.27,7.21 hours).The distribution of consultation topics showed statistically significant differences across genders(χ2=16.05,P=0.003)and age groups(χ2=48.14,P<0.001).Conclusions:Patients with ocular surface diseases exhibit a high demand for online consultations.The internet-based nursing clinic model effectively addresses the diverse needs of these patients.However,limitations persist,particularly regarding response times and service scope.Future initiatives should explore the integration of artificial intelligence(AI)technologies to improve the quality of online and offline nursing services.关键词
