Abstract
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness in individuals aged over 60 years and the primary blinding eye disease worldwide.Uncontrolled increases in intraocular pressure(IOP)can lead to optic nerve damage and vision loss.IOP is the only modifiable risk factor for visual function decline in glaucoma. Therefore, medications that lower IOP are currently the most effective approach to preventing disease progression.Topical IOP-lowering medications are an effective means of preventing glaucoma progression and vision loss. When monotherapy fails to achieve the target IOP,drug combinations with different mechanisms of action may be employed. However,it is crucial to minimize preservative exposure in patients requiring long-term treatment with multi-mechanism combinations. The preservative-free fixed-dose combination of tafluprost(0.001 5%)and timolol(0.5%)is a preservative-free compound eye drop formulation.Administered once daily,it demonstrates comparable efficacy and safety to separate administration of the two medications.Compared with using two separate eye drops, this combination further improves medication convenience, patient quality of life, and treatment adherence.Additionally, reducing preservative exposure may offer greater benefits for glaucoma patients requiring long-term therapy. Therefore, this article reviews the development process, clinical efficacy, and safety of preservative-free fixed-dose combination of tafluprost(0.001 5%)and timolol(0.5%),aiming to provide a reference for its clinical application.关键词
