Complex Mixed Methods Research Designs in Health Sciences:Application Scenarios and Implementation Considerations
摘要
Abstract
Mixed methods research(MMR)has been increasingly applied in the field of health sciences.By integrating qualitative and quantitative research methods,MMR promote researchers to address complex research questions in a more comprehensive and in-depth manner.With the development of evidence-based medicine,implementation science,and patient-centered medical research,the application of MMR have become increasingly diverse,and research questions have grown more complex.Beyond the three core mixed methods designs,including explanatory sequential design,exploratory sequential design,and convergent design,there is a growing need for more complex design types.This article systematically reviews five types of complex mixed methods designs commonly used in health sciences,including multiphase mixed methods research,intervention mixed methods research,iterative convergent mixed methods research,longitudinal mixed methods research,and mixed methods research for instrument development and validation.By incorporating illustrative cases,this article introduces the conceptual foundations,applicable scenarios,and key implementation considerations of each design type,aiming to provide methodological guidance for researchers conducting complex mixed methods research in related fields.关键词
