Abstract
Objective:To investigate the effects of fentanyl pretreatment on emergence agitation, sedation, and early respiratory adverse events in children undergoing tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. Methods:A total of 82 children scheduled to undergo tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy at our hospital between August 2021 and December 2023 were assigned according to block randomization to a control group or a study group, with 41 patients in each group. At induction of anesthesia, the control group received an intravenous injection of sodium chloride, while the study group received an intravenous injection of fentanyl citrate.Thereafter, both groups underwent induction and maintenance of anesthesia, and the infusion was discontinued at the end of surgery.Perioperative recovery variables, sedation[assessed using the Ramsay Sedation Scale],emergence agitation[assessed using the Pediatric Anesthesia Emergence Delirium Scale(PAED)],and the incidence of early respiratory adverse events were compared between the groups. Results:No significant between-group differences were observed in time to emergence, length of stay in the postanesthesia care unit,Face,Legs,Activity,Cry,Consolability(FLACC)Scale scores at postanesthesia care unit discharge or on postoperative day 2,time to oral fluid or food intake on the ward,or time to discharge(P>0.05).At 10,30,and 60 min after extubation,Ramsay Sedation Scale scores were higher and PAED scores were lower in the study group than in the control group(P<0.05).The overall incidence of early respiratory adverse events did not differ significantly between the groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:Fentanyl pretreatment may be an effective strategy for improving the quality of emergence after tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy in children.关键词
