Exploration on the Biological Connotation of"Spleen Storing Nutrient Qi and Nutrient Qi Housing the Thought"Theory Based on the Microbiota-Gut-Brain Axis

Abstract
"Spleen storing nutrient qi and nutrient qi housing the thought"is an important theory in the Zangxiang theory of TCM that addresses the relationship between the spleen and mental activities.The microbiota-gut-brain axis plays a significant role in emotion and cognition and is involved throughout the development and progression of neuropsychiatric disorders,providing a new perspective for elucidating the theory of"spleen storing nutrient qi and nutrient qi housing the thought".Focusing on the microbiota-gut-brain axis,this article explored the biological connotation of this theory from the aspects of theoretical overview,etiology and pathogenesis,and clinical differentiation and treatment.Gut microbiota and their metabolites can be regarded as the concrete manifestation of"nutrient qi",which regulates brain thinking and memory functions through the gut-brain axis.When the spleen and stomach function normally,the generation of nutrient qi is sufficient,ensuring gut-brain coordination and mental clarity.When the spleen is deficient and fails to transport,nutrient qi becomes deficient,leading to gut-brain disharmony,mental confusion,and even the development of emotional disorders.In the treatment of emotional disorders from the spleen,attention should be paid to strengthening the spleen and supplementing qi to restore the source of nutrient qi,as well as regulating the gastrointestinal tract and modulating the gut microbiota,combined with calming the mind to achieve spleen-brain co-regulation.Exploring the biological mechanism of"spleen storing nutrient qi and nutrient qi housing the thought"can further enrich its theoretical connotation and provide a reference for the treatment of emotional disorders from the spleen.关键词
