A study on the theoretical origin and development of cross acupoint selection method based on ancient and modern literature

Abstract
The cross acupoint selection method is an acupuncture methodology system based on the principles of interpenetration of meridianal Qi(气)-blood and Yin(阴)-Yang(阳)balance.Its theory originates from"contralateral channel needling","contralateral needling"and"distant acupoint needling"recorded in Huangdi Neijing(《黄帝内经》),guided by the core principle that"the diseases on the left side are treated from the right side,and the diseases on the right from the left";"the diseases above are treated from below and the diseases below from above the upper".By systematically reviewing and sorting out ancient and modern literature,this study aims to clarify the overall development context of cross acupoint selection method spanning from its theoretical foundation and historical evolution to modern innovation.The article analyzes in detail the theoretical basis,operational characteristics,and clinical applications of left-right opposing needling method,up-down opposing method,and various modern schools(such as anterior-posterior point combination,balance acupuncture,DONG's extraordinary points,corresponding point selection,and articular corresponding acupoints method),revealing that various acupoint selection methods commonly follow the core theories of interpenetration of meridians and collateral,Qi and blood circulation,harmony of Yin and Yang,and holistic concept.Research indicates that the cross acupoint selection method system,through inheritance and innovation by successive generations of physicians,has developed a relatively complete theoretical framework and operational procedures.However,certain discrepancies exist between its historical and contemporary interpretations regarding its theoretical connotation and clinical application scope.Modern clinical practice is primarily concentrated on musculoskeletal pain conditions and perigheral nervous system diseases,demonstrating a marked narrowing trend compared with the traditional indications documented in Huangdi Neijing,which included conditions such as ophthalmological and otorhinolaryngological,mental disorders,and acute diseases.Given the lack of systematic integration of the overall developmental trajectory of cross acupoint selection method in existing literature,this study adopts a logical framework of"theoretical foundation-historical evolution-modern divergence".By systematically tracing the origins and evolution of seven major point selection methods and analyzing the differential trends between ancient and contemporary practices,it constructs a relatively comprehensive theoretical framework.The aim is to provide a theoretical basis for promoting the modern innovative development,standardization,and clinical application of the cross acupoint selection method.关键词
