Polyphonic Narration and Memory Framework of"China,s Major Technological Achievments"in BeiDou-Themed Documentaries

Abstract
Documentaries themed on China's major technological achievements serve as pivotal audio-visual carriers for advancing sci-tech popularization and constructing collective national memory.Taking the documentary BeiDou as the research sample,this paper integrates the dual perspectives of narratology and collective memory,and employs the content analysis method to systematically examine the narrative operation logic of sci-tech documentary imagery and the construction pathways of technology-oriented national image.The findings indicate that:in terms of temporal narration,the documentary establishes its main narrative thread through chronological sequencing,interspersed with partial flashbacks to supplement historical details,forming a temporal grammar of sci-tech epic tailored to narratives of major engineering projects;in terms of auditory narration,the text adopts two-voice narration as its core expressive form,where vocal tracks,varied soundtrack genres and differentiated memory frameworks form a stable adaptive relationship,giving shape to a"dominant polyphony"narrative operation mode;in terms of collective memory construction,relying on a five-layer memory framework—breaking through technological blockades,intergenerational continuous struggle,ultimate Chinese precision,ordinary scientific research heroes,and marching toward the stars and the sea—the documentary transforms the BeiDou Project,a specialized sci-tech undertaking,into a collective memory symbol shared by the entire nation.Furthermore,while polyphonic narration accommodates diverse individual discourses,all narrative voices ultimately converge under the dominant meaning framework of national development.The visual practice of the BeiDou documentary series demonstrates that sci-tech documentary imagery has long transcended its mere function of science popularization and communication,and has become a key media form for shaping the national image of the new era and producing national cultural memory.关键词
