Abstract

The contents of available sulphur,whole sulphur,organic matterand pH of 110 samples of surface soil (0—20cm) and subsoil(20—40 cm),which sampled from 24 tea plantations in Hunan Province,were analyzed. The results indicated that the contents of available sulphur in tea gardens were rather high,aver aged 64.8±6.2 mg/kg,ranging 12.2—210.2 mg/kg in surface soils,and averag ed 91 .8±8.4 mg/kg at the range from 11.1 to 235.1 mg/kg in subsoil. There were about 7.3 percent of tea garden soils in Hunan Province being S-deficient. There was a tendency that available sulphur transferred from surface soil to subsoil in tea garden. The content of available sulphur was of remarkable positive correlation to the content of whole sulphur,but remarkable negative correlation to pH and no significant correlation to the content of organic matter. The contents of both available sulphur and whole sulphur were related to soil parent materials.
