Abstract

With the addition of La2O3-PbO-ZnO in mw materials, SrTiO3-based varistor ceramics were prepared by sintering in air. The effects of dopant on the phase structure, morphology and electrical properties of the SrTiO3-based varistor ceramics were investigated, and the mechanism behind the formation of SrTiO3-based semiconductor ceramics in oxidizing atmosphere was discussed. The results indicate that the prepared SrTiO3-based varistors exhibit high relative permittivity (εr = (1.51~2.78)×104) and nonlinear J-E characteristics (α= 5.5~7.2). Formation of SrTiO3-based semiconductor ceramics in oxidizing atmosphere can be attributed to that PbO doping leads to formation of active positions in SrTiO3 and hence promotes the formation of donor defects in SrTiO3 by promoting the substitution between rare earth ions and the ions at active positions.
