Adsorption Effects of Green Tea Waste on the Dye-Methylene Blue and Malachite Green

Abstract

The methylene blue (MB) and malachite green (MG) are industrial dyes which cause the water pollution. The study investigated the characters of adsorption with different pH value, tea waste amount, particles size and contact time. The kinetics curves and isotherms were examined. The results showed that green tea waste had the good effects on adsorption of MB and MG, and the smaller particles of green tea waste had the better adsorption effect. The optimum pH value for MB and MG were 7 and 5, respectively. The maximum capacities of MB and MG were 19.37 and 16.50 mg/g, respectively. After 240 min of the contact time at the initial dye concentration of 20 mg/L, the equilibrium were obtained as well. The results were fitted to Pseudo-second-order kinetic models. The experimental biosorption equilibrium data of both MB and MG were in agreement with Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm, respectively.
