Abstract

Ninty-eight backcross recombinant inbred lines (BC|F5) derived from a cross between Nipponbare (japonica)/Kasalath (indica)//Nipponbare (japonica) and its linkage map including 245 molecular markers were used to map QTL controlling seed shape (seed length, seed width and seed thickness) in Tsukuba Japan (2009) and Shenyang China (2010), respectively. A total of 16 QTLs containing 13 in Tsukuba and 9 in Shenyang were identified on chromosomes 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10 and 12. Six QTLs were detected under two environments including qSL3 - 1, qSL12, qSW5, qSTi, qST5 and qSTb-1. The genetically stable QTL controlling seed shape provided theoretical support under different environmental conditions, the expressed QTL under given conditions reflected the genetic complexity of seed type traits.
