Abstract

Objective: To evaluate AQP2 mRNA transcription and protein expression levels in rats fed die supplemented with sheep meat or duck meat. Methods: Totally 90 three-week-old male SD rats were randomly divided into three groups, and fed a diet supplemented with soybean protein (control), sheep meat or duck meat, respectively. On the 14^th and 28^th day, serum antidiuretic vasopressin (AVP), aquaporin-2 (AQP2) mRNA transcription, AQP2 protein expression, and Na^+-K^+-ATP enzyme activity were determined. Results: The rats fed sheep meat had higher levels of AVP, Na^+-K^+-ATP enzyme activity, AQP2 mRNA transcription and protein expression than those fed duck meat. Significant differences in other indices except protein expression level between sheep meat group and duck meat group were observed. In addition, both feeding groups on the 14~ and 28~ day also showed a significant difference in body weight. Conclusion: Sheep meat and duck meat have different effects on AQP2 mRNA transcription and protein expression. Sheep meetfortified diet reveals a positive effect, while the effect of duck meatfortified is negative. Therefore, sheep meat-fortified diet can limit the release of water, whereas duck meatfortified diet can increase the release of water.
