Abstract

Nipponbare (japonicd), Kasalath (indicd) and ninety-eight backcross recombinant inbred lines (BC1F5) derived from the cross between them and its linkage map including 245 molecular markers were used to detect QTL controlling cold tolerance at seedling stage by using the low temperature weather in early summer (from 30 May to 3 June) of 2011. Two major QTLs and one minor QTL were identified. The major QTLs qCTSl and qCTS3 were detected on chromosome 1 and chromosome 3, respectively. The minor QTL qCTSS was identified on chromosome 8. Cold tolerance alleles of the two major QTLs were from japonica parent Nipponbare and that of minor QTLs was from indie a parent Kasalath. The phenotypic variations (VE) explained of each individual QTL were 30.8%, 22.7% and 10.3%. These QTLs provide "elements" and basic-information for cold tolerance design breeding and elucidation of cold tolerance molecular mechanism in rice.
