Abstract

The hypoglycemic effects of the litchi seed extract (LSE) and fraction by cation exchange resin(FCE) were investigated. LSE or FCE with different concentration was cultured with high glucose HepG2 cell model and insulin-resistant HepG2 cell model in vitro , u-sing the method of MTT and glucose assay kit to investigate the hypoglycemic effects. The results showed that on high glucose HepG2 cell model, LSE and FCE increased the glucose consumption of HepG2 cells, and FCE had higher effect compared with LSE at similar content. This revealed that fraction by cation exchange resin of litchi seed extract were attributed to the hypoglycemic effect. FCE also enhanced the glucose consumption in synergism with insulin. On insulin-resistant HepG2 cell model, FCE significantly reduced the insulin resistance, increasing the glucose consumption of HepG2 cells. These results suggested that LSE and FCE exhibited the hypoglycemic effect in vitro.
