Abstract

Objective:This paper investigated antibacterial activity of Kadsura longipedunculata and provides effective evidence for natural food preservatives. Method: The antimicrobial effect of ethanol extract from Kadsura longipedunculata was studied in vitro against Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella paratyphi, et al. And the antimicrobial diameters, MIC and MBC were used as the target. Results:The extract had the prominent antibacterial activities. The antimicrobial diameters on test organisms were greater than 20 mm. The extractive exhibited higher antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria than gram-negative bacteria. The MIC and MBC on test organisms were as follows: Staphylococcus aureus were 3.125 mg/mL and 6.25 mg/mL; Escherichia coli were 25 mg/mL and 25 mg/mL; Bacillus cereus were 1.562 mg/mL and 3.125 mg/mL, et al. The higher concentration was or the longer inter-time was, the higher antibacterial rate was. The antimicrobial effect of the extractive against Bacillus cereus was better than sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate; the antimicrobial effect of the extractive against Staphylococcus aureus was similar to sodium benzoate, but weaker than potassium sorbate; the antimicrobial effect of them were similar. Conclusion:The extract had the prominent antibacterial activities on Food Deterioration Bacteria, which was expected to become natural food preservatives.
