History of the Nineteenth Century :A Legendary History Textbook in the Late Qing Dynasty
摘要
Abstract
In the year of 1895,the History of the Nineteenth Century(Chinese Version) translated by the missionary Timothy Richard was published in Shanghai and enjoyed much popularity .It was not only used as a textbook for world history,but also triggered the interest of many scholars and officials' interests in reading .Even Guangxu emperor read this book .There are many reasons to explain why this book became so popular at that time,one of which is that the content of that book and the historical viewpoints expressed in that book,to a great extent,meet the demands of the neoteric Chinese who want to know more about the western modern and contemporary history in the late Qing Dynasty .关键词
