Abstract

The main objectives of this study were to select effective competition indices for predicting diameter at breast height (DBH)growth of P. tabulaeformis plantation. According to the survey data of 185 P. tabulaeformis plantation retested data of permanent sample plots (PSP) in Beijing, western and eastern Liaoing districts, the relationship between DBH increments and 13 distance independent competition factors for P.tabulaeformis plantation was studied through exploratory analysis method and correlation evaluation method. The results showed that the individual DBH periodic growth frequency of P. Tabulaeformis plantation was reverse J-shaped distribution in Beijing district, however, that was left skewed distribution in Liaoning. The average individual DBH periodic growth was 2.27cm in Beijing district, with DBH growth range of 1-5.1cm, more than 80% of the DBH growth were randomly distributed in 1-3cm. The average individual DBH periodic growth was 1.74cm in eastern Liaoning district, with DBH growth range of 0.15-2.15cm, more than 70% of the DBH increments were randomly distributed in 0.1-1cm. The average individual DBH periodic growth was 0.78cm in western Liaoing district, with DBH growth range of 0.11-4.38cm, more than 70% of the DBH increments were randomly distributed in 0.1-3cm. The correlation coefficient was the biggest between individual DBH periodic increments of P. Tabulaeformis plantation and competition index (CI), basal area per acre in trees that were larger than the subject tree (BAL), diameter at breast height and basal area average diameter ratio (DBD), quadratic mean diameter and diameter ratio (QMD), competition index of trees that were larger than the subject tree (CILS) in Beijing and Liaoning. The relationship was significantly negative between CI, CILS, BAL, QMD and individual DBH periodic increments of P. Tabulaeformis plantation, which showed that the individual DBH increments decreased with the aggravation of competition effect. The relationship was significantly positive between DBD and individual DBH periodic increments of P. Tabulaeformis plantation, which expressed that the individual DBH increments increased with the in enhancement of growth and nutrient space. The establishment of growth model was accurate for the prediction of growth dynamics for P.Tabulaeformis plantation. Five effective competition indices including CI,BAL,DBD,QMD,CILS were selected for predicting DBH increments of P. tabulaeformis plantation.
