Abstract
Objective To investigate on the addition and distribution of optional ingredients in the follow-up formula for young children, and refer to the relevant food safety standards revision. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted.A total of 164 follow-up formula for young children were collected in China in the last two years and the information on the product label were recorded. The addition and distribution were analyzed and compared with the Chinese food safety standard. Results Almost all of the 164 formulas were added optional ingredients, the addition rate of taurine, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and choline were high, which were 92.7%,90.9%,89.6% respectively,while1,3-dioleyl 2-palmitate triglyceride (OPO),lactoferrin, casein phosphopeptides (CPP),polyfructose, polydextrose were less added, casein calcium peptide, raffinose, yeast β-glucan were not found in any products. The contents of all ingredients were at a lower level of standard range except taurine in the middle. For nutrients without minimum level, such as DHA,lactoferrin and casein phosphopeptides (CPP),there was a very low content in a few products. The main source of dietary fiber were galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) and oligofructose (FOS),and the ratio of GOS / FOS were 0.1 ~ 1 in most products. Conclusion In China, almost commercial follow-up formula for young children are added optional ingredients approved by Chinese standard and regulation in different level, however, the frequencies on ingredients addition are in big difference. The distributions of some optional ingredients are dispersed, while almost are in a lower level of standard range. It is suggested that the requirements on optional ingredients in the standard for follow-up formula for young children are improved based on the market situation and results of international risk assessment.关键词
