Abstract

Objective:Research the regulation of Apocynum venetum tea aqueous extract (AVTAE) on the blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and the relationship between its lowering pressure and changing of other physiological indexes.Methods:SHR were fed the test substance once a day,and once a week,they were tested the systolic blood pressure (SBP) and heart rate within 8-10 hours using tail-cuff method after gavaged.After six weeks,their weight,urine volume,urinary sodium and potassium and blood lipid in pressure down phase were tested.Results:Compared with the negative control group,the AVTAE group showed a downward trend after the first rise of the SHR's SBP,and this kind of phenomenon was very significant after 3 weeks,without significant regular change of heart rate.Stable lowering pressure phase (about at 8 h) appeared after three weeks,and the biggest drop was up to 16mmHg;In stable lowering pressure phase,the body weight and blood lipids did not change significantly,but the urine volume and urinary sodium,potassium significantly increased.Conclusion:AVTAE can decrease blood pressure after the first rise,but this bidirectional regulation works slow.Stable lowering pressure phase (about at 8 h) may be have relationship with its diuretic,natriuretic and kaliuretic effects.
