Progress in the Application of Non-Thermal Plasma in Degradation and Modification of Biopolymers

Abstract
Non-thermal plasma is able to induce the production of highly active species such as hydroxyl radical (OH·), hydroperoxyl radical (HO2·), superoxide anion radical (O2-·), and atomic oxygen radical anion (O-), and it has a distinctive effect on degrading and modifying biopolymers. The generation and properties of low temperature plasma are described in this review. This article also reviews recent progress in the application of low temperature plasma in the degradation and modification of biopolymers. In addition, the mechanisms of degradation and modification of polysaccharides, proteins and other polymers by low temperature plasma are also summarized.关键词
