Abstract

A microstrip bandpass filter with quasi-elliptic function response based on SIR was proposed for the first time. With two opened half-wavelength SIRs side-coupled to I/O feed lines, the realized filter response possesses two transmission zeros in stopband which improve the stopband rejection, first spurious rejection and selectivity, but the circuit size is almost not increased. The effective overall circuit only occupies 16 mm×3.32 mm, about 0.45λg×0.093λg, where λgis the guided wavelength at the passband centre frequency. The simulated and measured results show that the bandstop filter has a centre frequency of 4.95 GHz. The minimum insertion loss is 1.6 dB. The two transmission zeros are located at 2.34 GHz and 6.3 GHz. The stopband rejections are better than 40 dB and 35 dB near the lower stopband and upper stopband, respectively. The first spurious rejection is better than 25 dB. The bandwidth of upper stopband better than 20 dB is 9 GHz.
