Certifying Teacher Education Programs in the United States: Its Introduction and Implications

摘要

Abstract

The key to improving the quality of education lay in improving the quality of teachers. Therefore, one of the most important measures for controlling the quality of teachers lay in establishing a successful teacher education professional certification system. The United States had significant experience in the field of teacher education professional certification. This article briefly introduced teacher education accreditation in the United States as a model for improving the current teacher education professional certification system in China. In addition, China had not yet had teacher education accreditation standards for specific subjects up to now, which represented a direction for further research on teacher education in China. Thus, we introduced U.S. mathematics teacher education professional certification standards using the background of the development of teacher professional accreditation in the United States, and we proposed some suggestions for modifying the teacher education accreditation system in China.
