Abstract
Basedonmicro-dataofindividualteacherssurveyedbytheGansuSurveyofChildrenandFamilies(GSCF),this articleteststheeffectofteachers’placeofbirthontheircareerchoiceandlabormarketperformance.Teachersborninthe samevillageastheyteacharedefinedasnatives.Theyarelesslikelytoinitiatejobtransfers,survivelongerintermsofthe durationofthefirstteachingposition,andperformequallywellas(ornoworsethan)theircounterpartsborninotherjuris-dictions.ThecurrentstudycontributestothisstreamofliteraturesbyofferingempiricalfromruralregionsofMainlandChi-na.Policyimplicationsofthisstudyareobviouswithregardtorecruitingandretainingteachersforhard-to-fillpositionsin ruralareas.关键词
