Abstract

The principles a master teacher abides by mentioned in Shishuo is the intellectual heritage deposited by the educational practice centered on Confucianism in the pre-Qin period.However, the decline of the Han Dynasty, the continuous lack of the identity of the master teacher as the embodiment, communicator, and defender of the princi-ples, and the crisis that principles itself has emerged, have made the social values of traditional teachers repeatedly challenged until they are not passed on.Afterreviewing the above problems, HAN Yu tried to find a theoretical and practical way to solve the problem: first, the master teacher should establish dignity and fulfill new missions and re-sponsibilities; second, these principlesshould keep pace with the times and reconstruct its inheritance context and system; third, the culture should be used as the carrier of‘the principles a master teacher abides by’.On the basis of inheriting the tradition, HAN Yu renewed the connotation of the original the principles a master teacher abides by in order to pass on those principles, which led to a new situation of respect for teachers.
