Nutritional Literacy of Caregivers and Their Association with Children's Eating Behavior and Weight Status

Abstract
[Objective]To understand the relationship between caregiver nutritional literacy and children's eating behavior and weight status.[Method]Using the convenience sampling method,208 students in grades 3 to 5 of a medium-sized public primary school in Daxing District,Beijing,and their main caregivers were selected as the research objects.The caregivers and the children respectively filled out the questionnaires about caregiver's nutritional literacy and children's dietary behavior.Children's weight status was calculated using the physical examination data in the Beijing primary and secondary school students'health information management system.[Result]The aver-age score of caregivers'nutritional literacy was 61.9(full score is 100),and 52.9％of caregivers had nutritional literacy(≥P60);the higher the education level of the caregivers and family's economic level,the higher the nutritional literacy score(P＜0.05).The average score of children's eating behavior is 13.8(full score is 18),children have nutritional literacy(OR=6.563,95％CI:2.878-14.964)and caregiv-ers have nutritional literacy(OR=2.740,95％CI:1.220-6.153)are favorable factors affecting children's eating behavior(P＜0.05).The proportion of children who were overweight was 34.7％,which was related to the education level of caregivers(P＜0.05),but had no statistical significance with whether the caregivers had nutritional literacy(P＞0.05).[Conclusion]There is no statistical significance between the nutritional literacy level of caregivers and whether children are overweight,but it's the influencing factor of children's eating behavior.At present,the level of nutritional literacy of caregivers is not high,and health and nutrition education for the corresponding population should be strengthened.关键词
