Abstract

[Objective]To systematically evaluate the health effects of bird's nest and sialic acid on intestinal flora.[Method]Relevant studies published from the establishment of the database to March 1st 2022 on China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Wanfang Database,and China Biology Medicine disc(CBMdisc),PubMed,Embase were searched and selected based on the predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria.The SYRCLE's risk of bias tool for animal studies was used to assess the bias of the selected studies.[Result]A total of 5 articles were included,of which 4 were animal experiments and 1 was in vitro experiments.Regardless of the source of bird's nest and sialic acid,route of administration,duration of intervention,dose of intervention or research subjects,the findings of this systematic review showed that both bird's nest and sialic acid could regulate the structure of intestinal flora,increasing the proportion of beneficial bacteria and decreasing the proportion of harmful bacteria(P<0.05).This effect presents a dose dependent relationship(P<O.05).Bird's nest intervention on pregnant rats can adjust the structure and proportion of intestinal flora in offspring,and change the composition of intestinal flora(P<0.05).[Conclusion]Animal and in vitro experiments have shown that bird's nest and sialic acid have a regulatory effect on the number and proportion of intestinal flora.However,the potential effects of bird's nest and sialic acid on the intestinal flora on human-beings cannot be determined since there is a lack of human trials.
