Combining the metaverse with education has the potential to become a typical characteristic of the new era of educational informationization.Exploring the construction of teaching laboratories from the perspective of the metaverse can serve as an important approach to promote the smart and informationized development of laboratory education and management.The application scenarios of such an approach include science and engineering education,informal learning contexts,laboratory safety education,and innovative practice spaces.However,building metaverse laboratories faces difficulties such as technical complexity,high costs,safety and privacy issues,as well as moral,ethical,and legal issues.To overcome these obstacles,the construction path may rely on utilizing on-campus resources,joint construction with enterprises,and the formulation of detailed management methods.The construction of metaverse teaching laboratories is a complex and challenging task,yet it also holds promising prospects for both challenges and applications.
