Progress of Methods for Detection of Glycated Albumin

Diabetes mellitus, commonly called diabetes,is a group of chronic metabolic diseases characterized by the hyperglycemia over a prolonged period of time.Diabetes mellitus and its complications have become a serious global public health issue.Due to the lack of effective cure means, blood glucose monitoring has become an integral part of the diabetes management. As the product of the nonenzymatic glycation reaction between human serum albumin(HSA)and glucose in the blood, glycated albumin(GA)can effectively reflect the overall blood glucose level in the past two-three weeks. As a result,GA has been demonstrated to be a promising serum marker for the short-term glycemic control assessment, effectiveness evaluation, and therapy adjustment of diabetic patients.Accordingly, the simple,fast,low-cost,and highly sensitive and selective detection method for GA is of great value to diabetes management. In this review,a comprehensive overview of the progress on methods for GA detection was presented, with a focus on the detection principles and their respective advantages and disadvantages. Also, the prospect of the method for GA detection was presented.
