Abstract

Soil salinization restricts the geographical distribution of plants,and the selection of salt-tolerant cultivars is an important way to improve salinized land use and maintain crop growth under salt stress.In this study,salt-tolerant peanut cultivars Nonghua 5(NH5),Tiehua 5(TH5),Huayu 25(HY25)and salt-sensitive peanut cultivars Tiehua 2(TH2),Fuhua 34(FH34),Fuhua 23(FH23)identified in the previous screening experiment were used as materials.The malondialdehyde(MDA)content,the antioxidant enzymes activity,and the osmoregulatory substances content were determined by hydroponics and field yield verification methods.The effects of salt stress on the physiological characteristics and yield of different tolerant peanuts were explored.The results showed that:Salt stress caused the damage of peanut membrane system,and the damage degree of salt-sensitive peanut cultivars was more serious.Compared with the control,the MDA content increased by 2.44 to 2.75 times.Salt stress increased the activity of antioxidant enzymes in peanut leaves.The coefficient of variation analysis demonstrated that the coefficient of variation of salt-tolerant cultivars was 10.71%to 16.99%,while that of salt-sensitive cultivars was 19.98%,and salt-tolerant peanut cultivars had better antioxidant enzyme(SOD and POD)activities.In addition,salt-tolerant peanut cultivars can maintain osmotic balance and reduce cell membrane oxidation through stronger osmotic regulation compared with salt-sensitive peanut cultivars.The field yield data demonstrated that the decrease of yield of peanut cultivars under salt stress was mainly caused by the decrease of full pod per plant and the hundred grain weight.In summary,the physiological response characteristics of different tolerant peanut cultivars to salt stress are different.Both NH5 and HY25 showed good salt tolerance and were suitable for planting in saline land in northeast China based on the comprehensive consideration of physiological characteristics and yield data.
