TIMSS 2023 Mathematics Assessment:Characteristics,Framework and Revelations

Abstract
TIMSS is an important international comparison program organized by IEA to assess the academic achievement trends of students in mathematics and science in participating countries and regions.By analyzing the TIMSS 2023 mathematics assessment framework,it is found that it has the"changed"and"unchanged":in terms of assessment methods and design,it adopts a fully digital assessment and it introduces a group adaptive assessment design for the first time;in terms of assessment tone,it pays more attention to the context and process of problem solving;in terms of assessment dimension,it still comprehensively examines the two dimensions of content and cognition,and makes fine adjustments in stability.This study has certain enlightenment and reference:for the monitoring of mathematics academic quality and even teaching practice in primary and secondary schools in China,under the concept of"learning from international consensus and highlighting the demands of the times",the following things should be well done:enrich the assessment methods and connotations of the assessment,and move towards the directions of multi-modal informatization;pay attention to the problem contexts and the solution processes,and implement students'core competences;based on the curriculum model and knowledge and skills,pay attention to the development of students'higher-level thinking.关键词
