The Tracing of Thoughts on Education Modernization in Early British:Edgeworth's View of Practical Education

Abstract
Edgeworth is a pioneer of early British educational reform,and his practical edu-cation broke through traditional classical education,emphasizing practice and experience,and transformed education into the art of experiences.In Edgeworth's view of practical education,he supports the right of all classes and religious faiths to receive education in order to realize the happiness of all people.He criticized the autocracy and defects of classical education and pointed out that education should be practical,so the school should teach students practical knowledge to serve their real life.He forbade corporal punishment and insults to students in schools and advo-cated that students should study happily in games and entertainment.He also proposed that par-ents should not shirk the responsibility of educating their children for the happiness of the family,and that family education should complement school education,and that school education should be reformed to serve the students' future life.When the classical education in England was in the low ebb,Edgeworth's practical education led education in a direction that is completely different from traditional classical education,with a clear modern style,and promoted the modernization of British education.关键词
