External Pursuit and Internal Adjustment:YanXiu and the Beginning of Modern Chinese Women's Education

Abstract
Yan Xiu was an important figure who started the new female education in the late Qing Dynasty.During the new policy of late Qing dynasty,he combined with the experience of modern Japanese women's education,founded a series of girls' schools in the form of private schools,and trained the first group of educated women in modern North China.During his tenure as an education official,Yan Xiu also changed the situation of women's education in Zhili Prov-ince and even the whole country through a series of initiatives.As a scholar with imperial exami-nation background,Yan Xiu can attach importance to and take the initiative to promote Chinese women's education from family education to social education,representing the self-transformation of Chinese educational tradition.关键词
