Abstract

To investigate the effects of exposure time and composition on the activity of lavender essential oil(LEO),the chemical compositions of LEO and its purified light and heavy fractions(LLEO and HLEO)after refinement and separation were detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS).LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells inflammation model was used to investigate the relationship between the anti-inflammatory activity and exposure time of LEO and the difference of anti-inflammatory activity between light and heavy fractions.The results showed that linalyl acetate,linalool and lavender acetate were main components of LEO.LEO's optimal exposure time was 12 h.Under this condition,LEO showed high anti-inflammatory activity.LLEO and HLEO had some differences on the oxidative stress markers and inflammatory factors in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells.There were no significant differences between LLEO and HLEO on NO secretion,SOD enzyme activities and IL-6 secretion in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells.HLEO was significantly better than the LLEO in reducing ROS level,improving CAT enzyme activities and inhibiting TNF-α secretion(P<0.01).LLEO was significantly better than the HLEO in reducing MDA content(P<0.01).The above results showed that the anti-inflammatory activity of LEO was related to its action time,compositions and content.
