Abstract
[Objective]To systematically evaluate the impacts of caffeine intake on mood.[Method]We searched and collected relevant Chinese and English literature published between January 2011 and July 2023 from seven databases,including PubMed,Embase,Medline,Cochrane,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang,and Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System,us-ing search terms includes "caffeine","emotion","emotional","mood","mental","depression","anxiety","stress","relaxation","tenseness","alertness","jittery","happiness",and "dopamine".[Result]A total of 23 literatures includes 1 meta-analysis,18 random-ized controlled trials,and 4 cross-sectional studies,were included in the study. The single-dose caffeine intake ≥200 mg could improve one's negative emotions associated with mental and physical fatigue. The level of evidence is good,and the strength of recommendation is B. 70—400 mg daily caffeine intake is inversely associated with the prevalence of depressive symptoms. The level of evidence is good,and the strength of recommendation is B. However,caffeine intake ≥400 mg could lead to increased anxiety or tension. Males,young females,and those less tolerant to caffeine may be more sensitive to caffeine-related adverse emotional effects.[Conclusion]Consuming caffeine could impact one's mood,and the effect could be affected by multiple factors,such as dosage,gender,age,purpose,etc.关键词
