Abstract

Pre-service teachers'social-emotional competence is an emerging research hotspot in teacher education.Develo-ping a pre-service teachers'social-emotional competence measurement tool is a fundamental prerequisite for evaluating and developing pre-service teachers'social-emotional competence.This study has developed and validated a Pre-service Teach-ers'Social-Emotional Competence Scale based on theoretical exploration and quantitative testing methods in three steps:firstly,the theoretical structure and indicators of pre-service teachers'social-emotional competence were extracted through interviews with 26 teachers from three categories.Then,relevant scales were referenced and combined with expert evaluation and participant review to develop an initial scale.Finally,the scale was revised and tested based on a sample of 1380 pre-service teachers.The results indicate that the pre-service teachers'social-emotional competence is a multidimensional com-posite structure consisting of three elements(i.e.,self-emotional mastery,professional relationship building,and profes-sional affairs responsibility)and eight factors.The Pre-service Teachers'Social-Emotional Competence Scale(30 items)developed based on this has good reliability and validity,which can be used as an effective tool for evaluating pre-service teachers'social-emotional competence.
