Abstract

[Objective]To systematically evaluate the impacts of caffeine intake on muscle strength and power.[Method]Using search terms such as"caffeine""exercise""physical activity""training"and"fitness"relevant Chinese and English literature published from Janu-ary 2011 to July 2023 was systematically retrieved from seven databases,including CNKI,Wanfang,China Biology Medicine Database,PubMed,and Embase.Literature screening was conducted based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria.Additionally,the quality of evidence from the included studies was assessed using the China Food and Health Evidence Quality Assessment System.[Result]Totally 9 studies,all of which were randomized controlled trials,were included in this review.The findings indicated that a single intake of caf-feine at a dose of 3-6 mg/kg body weight could enhance muscle strength and explosive power in individuals engaged in physical activities.The quality of evidence was rated as good,with a recommendation grade of B.However,it is noteworthy that the impact of caffeine on exercise performance exhibits substantial individual variability,with its effectiveness and recommended dosage varying depending on fac-tors such as the type of exercise,dosage,and timing.[Conclusion]A single intake of caffeine at a dose of 3-6 mg/kg body weight contributes to improved muscle strength and explosive power.
