Flexible high gain energy harvesting antenna enhanced by negative magnetic metamaterial

Abstract
A metamaterial-integrated antenna featuring negative permeability was designed and fabricated to realize miniaturized,flexible,and high-gain electromagnetic energy harvesting for passive IoT systems.The negative permeability metamaterial was loaded as a parasitic patch on the back of the CPW antenna.By utilizing the magnetic resonance of the negative pemeability metamaterial,a stronger surface current was excited to enhance the gain.Analysis was performed to understand the effect of negative permeability of the metamaterial structures on the antenna gain enhancement.Polyimide was used as a substrate for the antenna,which has an operating frequency from 890 to 920 MHz and a size of 54 mm×63 mm× 0.22 mm in dimensions.Experimental results demonstrate significant gain improvement through the metamaterial integration,which achieves a peak gain enhancement of 1.5 dBi within the operational band.At 915 MHz,the optimized antenna exhibits a measured gain of 3.1 dBi.The proposed antenna exhibits high gain,low profile,compact structure,and flexibility,which makes it suitable for passive IoT applications.关键词
